OIA COVID-19 Immunization Policy

In the interest of remaining healthy and safe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and pursuant to the policies regarding this matter that the Ministry of Education effected, OIA has developed its own COVID 19 Immunization
Policy.

In agreement with the Ministry of Education directive, OIA’s COVID-19 Immunization policy will require that private school employees undertake one of the following:

1. Provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19; or
2. Provide a formal/official documented medical reason for not being vaccinated against COVID-19; or
3. Participate in an educational program approved by the Ministry of Education.
4. Individuals who are not immunized, including those with medical reasons, will be required to complete regular COVID-19 testing as directed in provincial guidance.

The means of obtaining, administering and reporting the test will be communicated in the near future by the Ministry of Education. Once this occurs, this policy will be updated to reflect the most updated information therein.
Independent Disclosure Policy – The Ministry will also be implementing a policy pursuant to which private schools will develop independent disclosure policies and ensure that information is accessible to Public Health Units. Once this occurs, this policy will be updated to reflect the most updated information therein.
Privacy – Furthermore, health is a topic that is private and personal, and unless publicly shared by the individual, one cannot delve into one’s personal health situation without prior consent. OIA will abide by the rules regarding this issue, while ensuring that the school remains safe and a healthy place to work in. Further details and guidance will be provided to support private schools in implementing the proposed policy, testing approach, and reporting expectations for early fall 2021.
